Portugal fought off a dogged Turkey side en route to a 3-1 win in their UEFA World Cup playoff semi to stay alive in a bid to reach the finals in Qatar later this year.
Turkey went into the play-off as underdogs, but they put up a spirited performance and were unlucky not to level the scores at 2-2 late on. However, Portugal were able to hold on and will now face either Italy or North Macedonia in the final in Porto on Tuesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Portugal in the 15th minute, but Burak Yilmaz equalized for Turkey just six minutes later. Joao Moutinho put Portugal back in front in the 37th minute, and Diogo Jota added a third in the 56th minute.
Turkey pushed for a second goal, and almost snatched it as the game approached the 90th minute with Portugal keeper Diogo Costa forced into a superb save to deny substitute Kerem Akturkoglu.
